,My number one goal is to promote a good learning environment through a school wide initiative PBiS. It fosters teaching your child how to stay safe, be respectful, and responsible. Also, Boystown Social Skills will be taught throughout the year. These programs working together assures every student has an opportunity for learning success.
I will be using an app called Classdojo to communicate how your child is doing. This app allows parents to view their child's day in real time. It also has an option to instant message encouraging messages to your child throughout the day. I will invite parents to join through Classdojo.com. I frequently update parents through Class Story on the exciting things happening in the classroom and school.
Everyday we will start with a clean slate (0 points). As the day goes on I will give points to students that are meeting expectations.
Ask your child how many points did you earn today.
Skills for success
This year we will be learning about formative skills for success both in and out of class. Third grade is a HUGE transition year which can be challenging for your child. By learning these skills, it will set a foundation for life.
The skills are…
Empathy Lessons will be taught to instill a caring understanding and compassionate environment. We will learn to walk in someone else’s shoes.
Self-Control We will take regular brain breaks throughout the day to practice self-control.
Integrity Integrity will be taught to understand we need to be honest, trustworthy and respectful to others.
Embracing Diversity Diversity will be taught to accept other’s unique backgrounds, being tolerant and accepting of other’s differences, and to celebrate what makes us unique.
Grit Third grade can be challenging, students will learn about the Power of Yet and how mistakes are celebrated. If they don’t understand a concept, don’t worry. They don’t know it YET. By perseverance and practice they will learn the power of hard work to be successful. I will give your child opportunities for struggle time to help them foster the skill of Grit.
Productive Struggle I will teach the your child that it is OK to struggle. Struggle Time is a good thing. They need to know they can do hard tasks and that learning happens in those moments. I will teach them strategies to overcome the feeling of being overwhelmed, stressed, or if they just don't understand.
